Another week has flown by! I think the whole of September is just going to be one big blur for me! This week was jam-packed full of wedding planning bits and pieces, and also some non-typical, and rather painful, elements of “bridal prep”. Sounds dubious doesn’t it? All will become clear!
Week 38: 14th to 20th September 2015
Monday – Rest day. We’ve been ordering the food shopping online for the last few months, which has been a massive time saver (and has actually saved us a few quid too!) and I usually order it to be delivered on a Monday as I know we’ll pretty much always be in. I read for a bit until it arrived, taking the time to sit and relax, and then got cracking with dinner – it’s rare I just sit and read!
Tuesday – Dance lesson 9pm. This evening we went along to a dance lesson in prep for our wedding. We’re not doing a routine as such, but we didn’t want to be that couple who just shuffles! While we waited for the lesson to start, the intermediate group class was just finishing up and I watched them quickstep, foxtrot and cha cha. It’s definitely given me a taste for it… especially with Strictly Come Dancing coming up!
My closest brush with dance (other than a short stint at ballet as a child) was the FitSteps launch in 2013 where I was lucky to meet two of my Strictly idols, Ian and Natalie. I love ballroom dancing and would love to learn!
Wednesday – Rest day. I had a tattoo removal session booked so went straight from the office to the Sk:n clinic in Chelmsford. I would have loved for my tattoos to be completely gone by the time I went on honeymoon, but there will still be traces of them left – not only that, but the scarring that has unfortunately occurred as a result of the treatment. This is a rare side effect of tattoo removal, but means that even after having my tattoos removed I’ll still probably never get my stomach out in public!
You’re not supposed to exercise for 48 hours after tattoo removal, because of the burning to your skin, so couldn’t do any training. I had hoped to do a CrossFit session in the morning today, but left it too late to book and the class was full.
Thursday – Rest day. I had a second day of painful treatments in store today with my eyebrow tattoo top-up. You probably won’t know that I’ve had my eyebrows tattooed for 4 years now. They always grew really sparsely, with not enough density in my brows to get HD brows or just have them tinted. For years I filled them in with pencil – always having these terrible thin brows, but eventually I plucked up the courage to have them tattooed and have never looked back!
Unfortunately it’s only semi-permanent so you have to have it done every couple of years, but it’s totally worth it! I’m doing a vlog about it so keep an eye out for that on my YouTube channel.
Friday – CrossFit Gymnastics Session 6pm. I decided to be sensible and wait for the full 48 hours after my tattoo removal before exercising so didn’t book on to an early morning CrossFit session. Instead, I opted for the Gymnastics session at Lift Off CrossFit in Bishops Stortford. This is a session dedicated to gymnastics skills, like handstand pushups, kipping pull ups, etc. so, in a way, similar to the Calisthenics workshop I went to a few weeks ago.
We worked on strict handstand pushup strength work with progressions from box pushups to handstand pushups against a wall. I worked with the hardest progression I could manage, which was handstand pushups with 2 ab mats, managing 4 reps at a time, supersetted with banded tricep pushdowns. We then moved on to front lever progressions, assisting eachother into a tuck position and then lowering down as controlled as we could. Next was a mini WOD of 8 rounds of:
20 second hollow body hang
10 second changeover
20 second hollow hold on the floor
10 second changeover
I struggled with grip on the rig, and had to scale the hollow hold on the floor to almost a tuck position, but definitely felt my stomach working hard throughout.
Saturday – Rest day. I spent the morning picking up bits and pieces for the wedding and trying some wedding crafts (without much luck!) and then got ready for a night out for a friend’s birthday in the evening. We went out for a Tex Mex meal and drinks and I had one too many cocktails!
Sunday – Rest day. Well… I say rest day! We had a load of garden rubbish and bricks to move, so we spent a good couple of hours working hard in the garden. Once we’d finished we headed round to Darren’s parents for a good old Sunday roast!
What have you been up to this week? If you keep a training diary I’d love to read it – please feel free to link below in the comments!
